Following on from last year’s successful Vicar of Dibley, Guilsfield Amateur Dramatic Society are coming back to The Holroyd Community Theatre with Sheila’s Island, written by Tim Firth, the writer of Calendar Girls. Sheila’s Island shares the same comedic style to get the audience laughing along, even with the occasional dark humour.
Sheila’s Island performance is about four women on a team building exercise that goes horribly wrong. Things go from bad to worse when they wash up on an island in the Lake District and their phone batteries die; they start to hatch rescue plans using cable ties and spatulas.
There are surprises and comedy ranging from the ludicrous, through surprise twists, and verging on the dark. These characters are well known from most workplaces and we get to understand what lies behind their individual foibles and issues as the play moves ahead at pace.
Sue from Guilsfield Amateur Dramatics Society, said “We thoroughly enjoyed performing last year at The Holroyd and we had a marvellous reception for our production of “The Vicar of Dibley”. We are sure that if you enjoyed that you will not be disappointed with Sheila’s Island. We are looking forward to performing in front of you all again in the wonderful Holroyd Community Theatre.”
Yvonne Beach, Manager of The Holroyd Community Theatre said: “We absolutely love helping our amateur dramatic societies and their productions, they are a vital community outlet to develop creative skills. Guilsfield ADS is an amazing company to work with. Everyone here still remarks about how good Guilsfields ADS’s “Vicar of Dibley” was so we know that this year’s “Sheila’s Island” will be outstanding.”
