As we bid farewell to 2023, I find myself reflecting on what has undoubtedly been the most magnificent autumn programme since our beloved theatre opened, nearly five years ago. As the Creative Director, I am thrilled to share the highlights and accomplishments that have made this autumn an extraordinary chapter in The Holroyd’s legacy.
The Holroyd’s journey began with a promise to provide a ‘theatre for everyone’ and I am delighted that we are continuing to deliver on this promise. The autumn programme unfolded like a tapestry of creativity, weaving together conversations with literary giants, engaging community initiatives, and captivating productions that left audiences in awe.
In the realm of literature, we were thrilled to host ‘in conversations’ with remarkable authors who generously shared their insights, stories and took questions from you, our community. Ross Kemp, Jesse Armstrong, Rev. Kate Bottley, and Shirley Ballas, to name a few, graced our stage, offering audiences a rare glimpse into the minds behind some of today’s most influential works.
Our commitment to our community was realised through a range of initiatives that catered to diverse interests. From the soothing atmosphere of baby massage, invigorating buggy walks and the expressive artistry of Face2Face Performance Academy, we embraced a holistic approach to community wellbeing. Not forgetting our weekly sessions with schools and colleges. This autumn, Weston Rhyn Primary school caused a storm in the theatre, with a short performance of The Tempest, whilst Coleg Cambria pupils developed their acting through song skills.
Of course, no Holroyd season would be complete without its stellar productions, and this autumn was no exception. Grease set the stage ablaze with its electrifying energy, Sheila’s Island charmed audiences with its wit and humour, and Derwen College’s Pantomime, Rockin’ Sleeping Beauty, transported us to a magical world accompanied by a Rock and Roll band, move over Theatr Clwyd, there’s a new Rock and Roll panto in town!
The resounding success of these events wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our incredible audience members and participants. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and sheer love for the arts have transformed this season into a beacon of creativity and community spirit. The Holroyd Community Theatre is truly a theatre for everyone.
As I look back on this season with immense pride, I can confidently say that it has been our very best yet. Thank you for being an integral part of this journey, and we look forward to creating more unforgettable memories in the seasons to come.
