The Holroyd Community Theatre exists to advance education in the Arts and to provide facilities in the interests of social and cultural welfare to promote drama, music, dance and the arts (generally for the benefit of the North Shropshire and Welsh border communities).
Owing to the generosity and support of founding patrons Bill and Julie Holroyd, this 180 seat professional theatre was built in 2019 and overlooks the grounds at Moreton Hall.
It is a founding aim of The Holroyd Community Theatre to be accessible to everyone in the local community, from professional or community artist to participant or audience member. The theatre aspires to become the region’s most stimulating venue for experiencing music, drama and other participatory arts. Alongside a professional theatre programme of events taking place throughout the year, the theatre facility encourages regular use by community, school and charity groups, amateur dramatic societies and arts organisations.
The Holroyd Community Theatre designed by Tim Ronalds’s Architects, an award winning practice specialising in theatre design and responsible for the renowned Hackney Empire Theatre, was shortlisted as a finalist in the West Midlands LABC Building Excellence Awards. The awards recognise the highest quality projects from around England and Wales and reward the best in technical innovation, construction quality, sustainability and creative design.
The Holroyd Community Theatre with its distinct design offers a state of the art performance venue, adaptable for a variety of productions and designed to accommodate the very best that performing arts can provide.
Its intimate but flexible and multifunctional space offers a large stage area, backstage facilities and first rate acoustics providing the ideal venue for an eclectic range of events and activities from stage performances, musical productions and presentations to celebratory events, workshops and rehearsals.
The expansive reception area is flooded with natural light and overlooks a picturesque landscape and golf course. Housing a bar and cafe facilities this provides the ideal venue for corporate hospitality and drinks receptions. With a standing capacity of 450 the space can be transformed into a venue for live entertainment.
The Holroyd Community Theatre is a space for everyone to enjoy and use.
